The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust’s brand new £3million locomotive, the 60163 Tornado, is Britain’s first locomotive to be built for 50 years. It has gone down a storm with visitors to the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York over Christmas.

The gleaming Apple Green machine was fresh out of the museum’s paint shop, where a dedicated team from The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust carried out the painstaking process of getting Tornado ready to step into the limelight.

The Tornado was in the National Railway Museum on the 15th December 2008 in the great hall.

The Tornado has now been captured in glorious colour by artist Martyn Simpson and limited edition prints are now available as is the original painting.
