Union Street

Visible is the old Primitive Methodist Chapel which was rebuilt in 1865, at a cost of £1,200. It was a handsome structure of pressed bricks, capable of seating 550 people and was used for many town meetings in the late Victorian period. Also visible is another of the town’s gas lamps (see January). Union Street was virtually all built by Pocklington builder Thomas Grant who was active in the latter part of Queen Victoria’s reign.
