Railway Street and the railway crossing

In the background is the Grammar School which was founded by John Dolman or Dowman in 1514. The wall surrounds the garden of Wilberforce House which was built in 1867. Sunnyside House was first named by the widow of the town’s brewing family. The Cattle’s were brewers in Chapmangate, the house then came in to the possession of William Petch. By the 1950’s the Wood family created the Sunnyside Pharmacy and it was a chemist up to the 1970’s.
