Market Square

Market Square with the old ornamental street lamp with a granite pedestal, erected at a cost of approximately £150, in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. Scott and Carlton were fishmongers who appear in the 1921 and 1929 Trade directories of the town. Walter Wilson grocer is listed in the 1929 directory but not the 1921 directory. This dates the photograph to the late 1920’s to the early 1930’s.
